Technology and Nature have been viewed as opposites in a spectrum. With the emergence of gene editing and synthesizing technologies, biology itself has become a technology and the boundary of nature and technology has become blurred. Counter Culture Labs is inviting artists to participate in visual dialogue about this transition and the social impact it will have. We are currently seeking artists interested in exploring this topic by developing a piece to be shown at a full emersion gallery event January 28, 2017 in Oakland, CA.
To facilitate the dialogue we will host two discussion panels open to the public about the current fears and the exciting opportunites biology as a technology means for society and the environment. Artists will also have the chance to experience what it feels like to design life, by making their own genetically altered organism.
Participating artists: Natalie McKean, Anacelia Gillette, Adam Garrett-Clark, Georgianna Krieger, Tracy Jacobs, Timo Menke, Gabe Christian, Johnathan Prado, Byron Rich, Constance Meffre, Rachel Thomas, Sebastian Corcioba, Eric Parren, Maximillian Lawrence, Leo Madrid.
